The Project

The Viana General Hospital, located in Luanda, Angola is being developed by VAMED in a turn-key basis. The scope for this project includes the complete design, the development of the entire medical equipment and engineering, as well as all construction works and installation.

This new hospital is located on a land of around 25,000 m2, and consists of a 3-storey main building and 5 smaller satellite buildings that function autonomously (the Maintenance Building, the Morgue Building, the Laundry Building, the Cafeteria Building and the Technical Building), essentially made up of ground floor and roof structures. In terms of services, it has five operating theatres, eight inpatient wards, a centralised diagnostic centre, an emergency service, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, orthopaedics and general medicine.

The Project

The Urology and Nephrology Centre of Excellence at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital spans 7,800 m² across three blocks and delivers advanced inpatient and outpatient care. It features 101 beds, 4 ICU beds, and 3 operating theatres—two major ones next to the CSSD for efficient logistics, and a minor one in the outpatient area. The facility includes 30 Hemodialysis stations with separate access and a cutting-edge imaging unit with CT, fluoroscopy, ultrasound, and lithotripter. A 100-seat teaching room supports clinical training. Completed in 30 months and handed over in December 2023, it includes further staff training and technical management by VAMED through 2026. This centre meets critical urology and nephrology needs in an underserved region with top-tier care.

The Project

VAMED France, in consortium with EIFFAGE and EGIS, is developing four 200-bed Regional Hospitals in Guinea. Phase 1 includes Kindia and Labé; optional Phase 2 covers Kankan and N’zerekore. VAMED France is responsible for medical equipment—engineering, procurement, delivery, installation, commissioning, and a one-year warranty. Site preparation has begun in Kindia, with formal commencement expected in March 2024. Beyond supplying MEQ, VAMED was selected as the healthcare expert for the project, providing technical advisory support across the full value chain of these turnkey hospital developments.

The Project

With four hospitals delivered in 2022, VAMED France is now the leading healthcare operator in Côte d’Ivoire. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed for two new General Hospitals and one Regional Hospital, currently in the final decision phase. In 2023, VAMED HQ (Vienna), VAMED France (Paris), and VAMED Côte d’Ivoire (Abidjan) jointly advanced three new hospital projects under a “Protocole d’Accord” with the Ministry of Health. Each facility (100–110 beds, 10,000–12,000 m²) will include Emergency, Outpatient, Internal and Surgical Medicine, Pediatrics, Gynecology, a Metabolic Diseases Unit, MEQ (incl. CT), and Labs. Preliminary designs were validated in November 2023; final negotiations are underway.

The Project

The Project

To reduce maternal and newborn mortality, Kenya’s Ministry of Health is modernizing 20 maternity and neonatal units across 12 counties, with support from VAMED. The Center for Nuclear Medicine and Radiation Therapy at RSPAD Gatot Subroto is set to become a leading oncology hospital in ASEAN, with Indonesia’s first proton therapy system. Developed by VAMED, this turn-key project includes design, construction, equipment installation, and advanced training. Phase 1 upgraded MRI (3 units), DSA (5 units), and CT (2 units) centers. Phase 2 adds a state-of-the-art Proton Therapy and Radiotherapy Center, with Linear Accelerators, Cyclotron, Brachytherapy, PET CT, SPECT, and radiopharmaceutical production. This Austrian-Indonesian collaboration brings cutting-edge cancer care to the region, improving diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up for local patients.

The Project

Mongolia’s National Cancer Center (NCC), founded in 1961, is the country’s sole state institution for cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and research. This Austrian-funded project enhanced NCC’s services by upgrading outdated radiation therapy equipment and establishing a stereotactic radiosurgery center. It included construction of a bunker, installation, commissioning, warranty services, and domestic and international training. The bill of quantity focused on neurosurgery and radiotherapy. With advanced technology and expanded capacity, the NCC can now treat two previously incurable cancers in Mongolia, significantly improving survival rates, especially for underserved populations.

 The location of the Hospital on the Eastern Highlands poses particular implementation challenges, as the nearest port is about 300 km away. Still, the modernization and exten-sion of the Goroka Provincial Hospital was successfully completed in 2018. With its newly constructed and modernized areas, the Hospital features around 300 patient beds, locat-ed in a remote region in the island’s interior about 1,600 meters above sea level. The project comprised the turn-key construction of a new central hospital building com-prising following departments: Accident and Emergency, Critical Care Unit, Outpatient Clinics, Radiology, Operating Theaters, Endoscopy, Intensive-Care Unit, Laboratory, Woman Healths & Birthing Suite and Central Sterilization Unit.

In Banda Aceh, Indonesia, VAMED, in cooperation with Austrian and Hungarian aid organizations, carried out the turn-key implementation of a general and children’s hospital with an integrated pediatric clinic. Located in one of the areas most affected by the tsunami, the Meuraxa Hospital opened in November 2007 and was recognized as the most significant post-tsunami reconstruction project. VAMED served as the chief initiator and provided its complete service package free of charge, making a vital contribution to the hospital’s successful completion and long-term impact.

The Project

The “Upgrading Medical Equipment & Supporting Facilities for Navy Hospital Dr. R. Oetojo, Sorong” project involved the construction and MEP works for a new standalone two-storey department. VAMED Engineering delivered, installed, and commissioned all medical and non-medical equipment, including furnishings. The facility features a Radiology unit with CT and digital X-ray, two operating theatres, ICU, CSSD, laundry, lab, pharmacy, and renovated dental and ENT rooms. The scope included planning, training, and commissioning, with advanced hands-on CT training at a specialized center—enhancing clinical capabilities at RSAL Dr. R. Oetojo.

The Project

The Dr. Wahyu Slamet Hospital confirmed its commitment to the continues provision of a range of healthcare services in Bitung, Sulawesi Utara, Indonesia. As the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Indonesia was adapting a referral system for Hospitals in Bitung, the plan was to equip and upgrade the Dr. Wahyu Slamet Hospitalto strengthen its health service delivery capability as atertiary referral Hospital in Sulawesi Utara. In many cases the existing medical equipment and devices of the Dr. Wahyu Slamet Hospital were strongly outdated and considered as obsolete. Within this project VAMED Engineering GmbH represents a unique project, with its very first delivery and installation of a hyperbaric medical treatment system. The project has been funded by a concessional Loan from Austria.

The Project

The Project

VAMED was commissioned to review the Client’s strategy to expand healthcare provision in San Fernando, leading to the redesign of an existing shopping mall and office complex. Pediatric and adult outpatient clinics, internal medicine, imaging, and laboratory departments were established across 8 inpatient floors. A complete reorganization of internal spaces was carried out. Additional departments included maternity, pediatrics, pharmacy, and a teaching facility.

The Project

The Hospital San Francisco was built in 1990, using already existing radiology equipment, dating back to 1980’s.
 
VAMED designed, constructed and equipped a new radiology department and delivered additional equipment for the critical care area of the hospital.
 
The scope comprised among others of the following equipment: CT (64 slices), X-ray, ultrasound, a mammography unit, anesthesia machines, ventilators, incubators and an UPS to secure uninterrupted power supply. This was a big improvement for the patients in this area, who had to travel to Tegucigalpa, for their examinations.

The Project

The Project

Kosovo is implementing a broad initiative called “Health Support Programme in Kosovo” with the goal to improve the health status of the Kosovarian people in order to:
• Reduce morbidity and mortality of the population
• Improve management of the existing resources and quality of services
• Implement and develop the health information system
• Complete the functioning and reorganization of the existing infrastructure of the health care system and improve procurement of medical equipment
• Develop a sustainable funding system for the health sector
Data processing is done via a service-oriented IT architecture comprising:
• Web-based and desktop applications
• Centralized data storage
•Electronic health record in international standard
• Restricted access to clinical data (diagnosis, procedures, etc.
• The system is able to operate dynamic workflows
• Medical records are customizable during operation
• Access to the system is monitored, controlled and restricted in an appropriate manner according to ISO 27001 standard
Finally, the system will serve 72 health care facilities, 1,100 medical doctors and 3,000 nurses.

The Project

In early May 2015, a festive groundbreaking ceremony was held for the new main location of the Jagiellonian University Hospital (NSSU) at the Krakow-Prokocim site. The central building complex will in future house 892 beds, 24 operating rooms, outpatient departments, as well as research and teaching facilities. Within a pan-European Consortium, VAMED was responsible for the redesign the renowned Hospital, as well as for medical technology equipment. Located in the Prokocim district since 1966, the UniversityHospital caters for all general medical needs and has built up a reputation for its specialization in pediatrics and as a teaching and research institution.
